On Tuesday January 10th, the 3-2 WCI Vikings were taking on the 4-2 Huron Heights Huskies at Activa Sportsplex. This was both teams first game back from the winter break.
This game didn’t waste any time, as under 2 minutes into the game Jake Fisher skates in and takes a shot from the left circle and beats the goalie short side to open the scoring. It’s 1-0 Huron Heights early into this one.
Now late in the first period, Jake Fisher has a late chance. He shoots from the left circle but hits the post. It remains 1-0 Huskies after the first period.
Early second period, a fleury in front of the Huron Heights net with Huskies goalie Owen Aldridge on his back, but WCI couldn’t convert the chance.
After a turnover, Aiden Reid beats the Vikings defender and goes on a breakaway. He shoots and beats Dylan Weiler to make it 2-0 Huskies.
After that, the Huskies are shorthanded after a hooking penalty. While shorthanded, Jayden Fischer steals the puck and is going the other way. Fischer takes a quick shot that’s stopped, but Jake Fisher picks up the rebound and scores his second goal of the game. It’s 3-0 after the second period.
In the first minute of the third period, Huron with a chance, jamming away at a loose puck in front of the Vikings net before Lukas Talbot put the puck in the back of the net. It’s 4-0 Huskies early in the third period.
Huron Heights takes a penalty to give WCI a power play. But not long after that, WCI kills their power play with a penalty of their own.
During 4 on 4 play, Matthew Anderson gets WCI on the board as he gets his 4th goal of the season to make it 4-1.
Later in the period, WCI finds a loose puck in front and Finn Skuterud beats Owen Aldridge to make it 4-2 with 3:30 left in the game.
The Vikings continue to push, taking a shot from the point that bounces out to Brandon Kong who makes no mistake, scoring his 7th goal of the season, and cutting the deficit to 4-3 with 2:19 left.
WCI pulls their goalie with under a minute left, but Ezra Fischer puts the puck in the empty net, making it 5-3 Huskies.
Ezra Fischer would get another goal with 1.7 seconds left, As the Huskies take this one 6-3.
