On Tuesday, December 13th, the 3-0 Elmira Lancers were taking on the 2-1 Grand River Renegades at Grand RIver Arena.
In the first period Elmira takes a tripping penalty so Grand River gets a power play. On the power play, Jacob Reid-Brandt finds Cole Hunsberger in front of the net and he makes it 1-0 Grand River.
The Lancers looked to tie it up in the first period. They get a 2 on 1 and Isaiah Shantz finds Liam Wood to tie the game 1-1.
Now in the second period, Chaz Proulx finds Stephen Peppas cutting through the middle and he beats Evan Catton for his second goal of the season. It’s 2-1 Renegades.
Late in the second period, Grand River makes a great passing play and scores, but the goal is waved off because the net was moved. It remains 2-1 after two periods.
Now in the third period, off the faceoff, Nolan Karger blasts one past Sam Miller to tie the game for the Lancers.
Elmira gets a great cross crease chance later in the period, but Ethan Bickerton is robbed by Sam Miller to keep it a 2-2 game. The game needed overtime.
Late stages of overtime, Kyler Morgan with a great chance at the end but Evan Catton stops him to force a shootout.
In the shootout, the Renegades would score all of their shootout chances coming from Jordan Stewart, Jacob Reid-Brandt and Stephen Peppas. Sam Miller stopped all 3 Elmira shots.
The Renegades take this thriller 3-2 in the shootout improving their record to 3-1-1 and handing Elmira their first loss of the season.
