Boys Ice Hockey – BCI vs GRCI

On Tuesday, January 17th, the 8-0 Bluevale Knights were taking on the 6-1-1 Grand River Renegades at Grand River Arena. 

In the first period, Grand River keeping good pressure in the offensive zone, Colin Arsenault gets knocked off the puck, but the puck finds Riley Smith who is stopped by Knights goalie Mitch Simmons. 

Grand River would get a power play after a Knights penalty. On the powerplay, the Renegades would score, but it was waived off. We remained scoreless after the first period. 

In the second period, Bluevale gets a power play. Thomas Chan finds a loose puck in front of the net and breaks the ice with his 10th goal of the season. It’s 1-0 Bluevale. 

Grand River tried to respond with good pressure but nothing to show for it. Mitch Simmons was perfect through over half of this game. 

Grand River kept the pressure and eventually Cole Hunsberger is sprung on a breakaway. He makes a great move, but Simmonds stretches the pad and makes a great save. It remains 1-0 Knights. 

Bluevale coming in transition later in the period. Nolan Evans comes in on the left wing and beats Dylan Monk. It’s 2-0 Bluevale. 

Grand River trying to get on the scoreboard down 2 goals. Caleb Cummings receives a cross ice feed and walks in the left wing. He rips a shot past Simmons and they get back in the game. It’s 2-1 after 2 periods of play. 

Now in the third period, Bluevale is keeping pressure in the renegades zone. Grand River defenseman Trey Weinstein’s stick breaks, and Carson Bernhardt gets the puck and scores. He makes it 3-1 Knights.  

Grand River looking to answer back. Kyler Morgan finds the puck and makes a great pass to Riley Smith who makes no mistake, he get’s his 4th goal of the season and it’s 3-2. 

Not long after that goal, Andrew Zulawski-Dayeh takes a slapshot from the point and restores Bluevales 2 goal lead. It’s 4-2. 

Grand River with a 6 on 4 power play and an empty net with just over 2 minutes left. Bluevale takes a tripping penalty and some shoving after the whistle leads to more penalties and an ejection for Grand River. 

Bluevale continues their undefeated season as they improve to 9-0 after a 4-2 victory.
